The Human Resource Club of SIBM-H Humanalaya conducted a Guest Lecture on the topic “Performance Management System, PM Audit and HR Score Card” for the Performance Management System students of MBA Batch 2023-2025 on 08th August 2024. The guest lecturer for the session was Dr. Poulomi Ghosh, Chief L&D consultant DEI and POSH advocate. Dr. Ghosh delved into the fascinating world of Performance Management System (PMS), offering valuable insights applicable to the students. She emphasized the pivotal role of performance management in an organization, highlighting how individual competencies are essential for driving overall success.

    (Dr. Ghosh Addressing the students)

The lecture underscored the significance of identification of key competencies of the individuals that drive the success of the organisation. We were introduced to SMART Action plan, a strategic roadmap that outlines specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time- bound (SMART) objectives to guide individuals or teams toward their goals. It ensures clarity, focus, and accountability, making it easier to track progress and achieve desired outcomes efficiently.

(Dr. Ghosh explaining the concepts to the students)

Furthermore, Dr.Ghosh shed light on Key Performance areas which are the crucial functions and activities for which a job holder is primarily responsible. These areas are significant contributors to overall results, requiring priority attention. KPAs are more specific than general roles but not as detailed as goals. We also learnt how Goals in performance management are set to develop, maintain, implement, reduce, or increase specific outcomes.

To understand these concepts, each individual was asked to identify their strengths and areas for development, then align them with a given list of competencies which includes Fortitude, Stress Management, Devotion, Consideration, Adaptability, Combativeness, Decision making, Learnability, Achievement Drive, Resilience and resourcefulness.

    (Students engaged in group activities)

The lecture seamlessly transitioned into an engaging group activity. We were tasked with round table discussion and come with 10 strategic points on career mapping, elevating performance through learning and Building a future fit workforce – building competent teams.

Further, there was a discussion on balanced scorecard (BSC) , defined as a management system that provides feedback on both internal business processes and external outcomes to continuously improve strategic performance and results.

In the conclusion, the guest lecture was an enriching experience. It effectively equipped us with theoretical knowledge and practical tools, leaving us with a clear understanding of the role of performance management in facilitating organisational success. The combination of expert insights, interactive collaborative activities provided a comprehensive and engaging learning experience.
