Professor B Sudhakar Reddy, Honorary Director, Indian Council of Social Sciences Research, Ministry of Education, Southern Regional Centre visited the Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Hyderabad on 25th April 2024. Dr. K. P. Venugopala Rao, Director, SIBM welcomed Professor B Sudhakar Reddy and introduced the faculty of SIBM, Hyderabad.
The main aim of this visit is to explore the possibilities of project funding and proposal development by the
Faculty Staff. Professor Sudhakar Reddy emphasized the need for project development from a premier institute
like SIBM, Hyderabad. He briefed the faculty about the available funding options. A brief summary of the Honorary
Director, ICSSR presentation is presented below.
The primary objective of the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) is to promote research in Social
Sciences and to facilitate the utilization of its vast resources. The ICSSR has six Regional Centres in India,
among which the Southern Regional Centre is one of them.
The major role of the Southern Regional Centre is:
- To act as a representative of the Indian Council of Social Science Research, New Delhi for the promotion of Social Science research and information centre for disseminating and implementing the programmes and the activities of the ICSSR to the social scientists in the region.
- To serve the requirements of the social science community of the region covering the states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and the Union Territories of Lakshadweep and Puducherry.
- To award Short Duration Projects within the Southern Region.
- To develop documentation and bibliographical services in some of the South Indian Languages.
- To organize or to assist in organizing seminars/workshops/conferences in the region by Institutes, Universities and Colleges etc., and to arrange lectures by distinguished scholars.
- To provide facilities for accommodation to scholars/students visiting the place for research work.
- To maintain a data library.
- To award study grants to scholars for visiting libraries and institutions for research work.
In conformity with the aims and objectives of the ICSSR, the Centre has been engaged in various activities
essentially for the promotion of social science research in the Southern Region. The programmes may be classified
under the following categories:
- Research Promotion
- Seminars/Conferences/Symposiums/Convention/Workshops etc.
- Research Methodology Courses
- Short Duration Research Projects
- Study Grant
- Lectures
The Honorary Director suggested the faculty submit projects with a 1-3 year duration considering the social
science components. The ICSSR also funds the research papers published by the Faculty of SIBM covering Article
Processing Fee. For senior staff, the ICSSR has a National Fellow scheme. Further, the ICSSR can fund the
research methodology courses, short duration projects, and training provided by SIBM to the faculty community from
outside universities/institutes.
Professor Sudhakar Reddy suggested and encouraged the faculty to visit the website for more funding opportunities
and expects to receive some project proposals in the near future. This visit was very fruitful, encouraging, and
faculty will be immensely benefited.
Professor Sudhakar Reddy patiently answered the queries of the staff and hoped that ICSSR Southern Regional
Centre will receive some projects in the near future.
