Industrial Visit to PEPSICO

On 31 January 2018, the students of Operations Specialization of SIBM Hyderabad accompanied by Dr.Rajkumar Pillay( faculty) had a chance to visit PepsiCo Plant located at Sangareddy District.

The Plant was basically a manufacturing unit with fully automated machinery. There were long Assembly lines carrying Pepsi Bottles for long distances. The plant followed all the 8 pillars of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and the 5S framework, Lean management techniques like waste reduction.

Since the plant was fully automated it can manufacture about 600 bottles per minute and 36000 bottles per hour. The Pepsi bottles are produced in small batches and hence there is batch production which is practiced. The inventory area is used to store the packaged bottles.

It was a great learning experience when practically we saw the processing in real time and related theory to practice.
