Symbinar - Mr. Shiv Rawat

Topic: "COVID-19 & its implications on Human Resource Functioning"

Date: 24th May 2020, Sunday.

Time: 12:00 PM to 01:00 PM

As a part of the live webinar series ‘SYMBINAR’, SIBMH hosted Mr. Shiv Rawat, AVP - National HR Head, DTDC Express Ltd, who spoke on the matter “COVID-19 and Its Implications on Human Resource Functioning”.

Our honorable guest said that the COVID-19 situation has made people army men, as it has taught to deal with unpredictable situations and do more with less available and accessible. It has not only imparted us with the skill to deal with challenges but also taught us health maintenance.

He explained that in this critical time, there’s no timeline for strategy as everything keeps changing with the blink of an eye, and has forced businesses to change their business models. It has pushed people to think out of the box and removed barriers of dependency. The situation has also paved the way for the importance of ‘e’ or ‘electronic’ ways of doing things such as e-learning, e-conferences, etc.

He also explained the challenges companies have to face and overcome w.r.t. human resource management such as increased grievances, convincing employees to work even on pay cuts, and how to define work-life balance as more people start to work from home. He also informed the students of the situation’s impact on the HR budget, recruitment budget, rules of engagement, and employee connect. The 3 R challenge which he pointed out were Recruitment, Rightsizing, and Recruitment Pressure. Fear of losing talent and specialized workforce was another point of concern as mentioned subsequently by him. Employee wellbeing will become a matter of high priority as they cannot be forced to travel in the disease-struck scenario, and that new rules of working remotely, social distancing, tracking employee yet not invading privacy and logging temperatures, were some of the important points which Mr. Rawat spoke about in the conclusion.

The session was followed by a Q&A Session where students came up with their queries and displayed their keen interest in the topic. We look forward to hosting more such informative webinars with our respected guest.
