Guest Faculty Profile:-

Dr. Sagar Amlani is a chemical engineer with Master’s in management from Middlesex University, London. He is having more than 15 years industrial experience in chemicals and polymer coating quality management. Currently Mr. Amlani is working as vice president, coating division at Fenoplast Ltd. Hyderabad driving business excellence. He is also a chartered engineer, certified lead auditor of ISO 9001, IATF, Certified Six Sigma green belt, and TRIZ trainer. Mr Amlani is a passionate teacher and trainer. He is a board member at professional speaker association of India.

Company Profile:-

Fenoplast Limited was incorporated in the year 1976, today it is a leading manufacturer of PVC Leather cloth. Fenoplast is a market leader in the OEM segment for faux leather and preferred supplier of TVS, Hyundai, Daimler, Volkswagen, Porsche, BMW among others. Fenoplast also manufactures rigid PVC and PVdC coated films for pharma and non-pharma applications.

Objective of the Guest Lecture:-

The objective of the guest lectures was to teach II semester’s Total Quality Management course to operations management specialization students in collaborative mode along with an industry expert. Some topics of the course such as ISO standards, Six Sigma and Triz needs to taught from practical perspective with live examples from the industry. As well as the learning will be effective if these topics are taught in a workshop mode rather than lecture mode. Dr. Sagar Amlani, being well qualified and expert in the field of TQM handling ISO standards and six sigma projects hands on for many years, he was invited to deliver the topics and train the students.

Understanding of ISO Standards – Its Significance (theory)
Application of ISO Standards – Practical Life examples
Understanding of High-level structure (Theory)
Industrial Example and correlation of ISO standards – Role Play (case study)
Deming Cycle (PDCA) – Theory + Practical Group Activity
Significance of 5s methodology – Theory + Practical workshop
Understanding Productivity using industrial examples and case study
Understanding concepts of TQM - Productivity – Effectiveness – Efficiency (Video + PPT)
Basics of Six Sigma & Cp-Cpk with industrial examples.

Conclusion:-

Students have shown great interest in the topics by actively participating in understanding and drafting the quality standards, working on six sigma phases of DMAIC and sample projects. Discussed on various incidents and cases from industry based on the guest faculties experience. The session gave the students several insights and helped them in understanding aspects and impact of TQM philosophy and ISO standards in both manufacturing and service industry. Everyone participated with enthusiasm and gusto and the sessions were worth its time and value adding to students learning.
