Seniors of SIBM-H are welcoming the Batch 2015-17 students
Arun Hegden spoke about the basics of photography that one follows and should consider when
clicking a photo, while emphasizing on the fact that they were not limited to SLRs / DSLRs. He listed the aspects that really make the difference in the photo that has been clicked and those were the factors
that made the line between a photo clicked on a professional camera and on a smartphone diminish. The Points that he Propounded: -
Using gridlines when you capture
Understand the background and build it if you can. Avoid distractions there.
An interesting and suitable subject for a well-crafted background (naturally or intentionally)
Check the light. Think of the photo and what is the right light for the photo you want? Consider the “Golden hour”, when the light of the sun is soft and gives the best of the photos, early morning, or late evening.
Focus should be right; the subject should be kept in the right focus to get the right perspective.
Angle of shooting – helps to convey the power of the emotion that is to be conveyed, or any other aspect that want to be communicated.
Emotions of the subject –The emotions expressed should be in accordance to the background that one stands in.
Importance of eyes - What speaks and connects the viewer are the eyes of the subject (especially portrait photography).
Rule of thirds – grabbing the attention of the viewer to where you want him/her to see.
Look for patterns – it is human tendency to look for patterns. Find a pattern and find an element to break that pattern.
Mr. Hegden shared a few of his photographs with students that he clicked using a smartphone, with results much like having used a professional camera. He discussed how he had used the aspects, he mentioned of, in the photos that were shown.
