Our participation in AVEG at ICFAI Business School aimed to foster fitness, teamwork, and competitive spirit among our players. The cricket event energized our team, strengthened collaboration, and showcased SIBM Hyderabad’s commitment to holistic development through sports.
In the multi-college AAVEG tournament, our team began with a narrow loss but progressed thanks to a favorable net run rate. We delivered an impressive victory in the second match, securing our place in the knockouts, where we put up a strong fight but ultimately lost to IBS Mumbai in semis.
The tournament began with our opening match against IBS Hyderabad Team B. IBS elected to bat first in a 10-over contest and posted 111 runs, losing all 10 wickets. Our bowling unit performed exceptionally well, led by Mrinmoy (MBA First Year), who delivered an outstanding spell 3 overs, just 6 economy, and 4 crucial wickets, putting the opposition under immense pressure.
Chasing 111, SIBM Hyderabad experienced an early collapse with quick wickets falling at the top. However, Mrinmoy once again stood out with the bat, scoring a remarkable 61 runs off just 27 balls, keeping the chase alive until the final overs. Despite the strong fight, the team fell short by 3 runs, finishing at 108. The narrow margin meant our net run rate remained favorable, keeping us alive in the tournament.
The second match saw a dominant all-round performance by SIBM Hyderabad. CBIT batted first and were restricted effectively to just 70 runs in 10 overs, owing to disciplined bowling and tight fielding by our team.
In response, SIBM Hyderabad showcased an aggressive batting display, chasing down the target in only 7.1 overs, ensuring a comprehensive victory.
This emphatic win significantly boosted our net run rate, which played a key role in our qualification for the semifinal stage.
The semifinal was held against a strong IBS Mumbai side. IBS Mumbai opted to bat first and set a challenging total of 150+ runs in 10 overs, displaying powerful batting throughout their innings.
During the chase, SIBM Hyderabad managed to score around 70 runs, which, although a decent effort under tournament pressure, was not enough to surpass the high target.
