Faculty Development Program-2025

Introduction:

The Faculty Development Program (FDP) on "Outcome-Based Education (OBE) and Contemporary Pedagogy" was organized by STLRC (Symbiosis Teaching Learning Resource Centre) and SIBMH aimed at equipping faculty members with the tools, knowledge, and skills required to implement OBE in teaching practices. This program focused on the importance of aligning teaching methods with desired learning outcomes and integrating modern pedagogical approaches for better student engagement and learning.

Objectives of the FDP:

  • To introduce faculty members to the principles of Outcome-Based Education (OBE).
  • To provide an understanding of contemporary pedagogical methods that enhance student learning.
  • To enable faculty to design curriculum and assessments that align with defined outcomes.
  • To explore innovative teaching techniques and technologies that cater to diverse learning styles.

Program Schedule and Content:

Program Name:
Faculty Development Program

Days: 5 days Program

Organizing Committee:

Symbiosis Teaching Learning Resource Centre Jointly Organized by SIBM, Hyderabad

Session 1: Introduction to Outcome-Based Education (OBE)
Time: 9.30 AM-11.00 AM
Date: 05-03-2025
Speaker: Dr S Baskar

Overview:

Outcome-Based Education (OBE) is an educational approach that focuses on clearly defined, measurable learning outcomes—what students should know, understand, and be able to do by the end of a course or program. Unlike traditional education, which emphasizes content coverage, OBE centers on student achievement and mastery of competencies.
The approach is student-centered, allowing for flexible learning pathways, where progress is based on mastery, not time spent in class. Assessments are designed to directly measure whether students meet these outcomes. OBE aligns educational goals with real-world skills, promotes continuous improvement in teaching, and encourages lifelong learning.
In short, OBE ensures that education is relevant, accountable, and focused on practical, measurable results for students.

Session 2: Key Parameters of OBE
Time: 11.15 AM - 12.45 PM
Date: 05-03-2025
Speaker: Dr S Baskar

Overview:

The key parameters of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) are:

  • Learning Outcomes: Clear, specific, and measurable goals defining what students should know and be able to do by the end of a course or program.
  • Curriculum Design: Structured around the defined learning outcomes, ensuring that content, teaching methods, and activities align with the desired competencies.
  • Assessment: Evaluations (formative and summative) aligned with outcomes to measure student achievement and progress, ensuring mastery before advancement.
  • Student-Centered Learning: Focus on individual student progress, allowing personalized learning paths and flexibility in pacing.
  • Continuous Feedback and Improvement: Regular assessment feedback helps students improve, and course designs are adjusted based on performance data to enhance future learning experiences.

These parameters ensure that education is outcome-driven, relevant, and aligned with real-world skills and competencies
