The session was delivered by Mr. Emmanuel Gosula, a seasoned HR leader with extensive experience and comprehensive understanding of how organizations manage, develop, and retain talent in today’s dynamic environment.The session began with the speaker establishing a common foundation, defining talent management as the opportunity for individuals to thrive and succeed. Drawing parallels with the MBA student journey, he emphasized how talent planning extends beyond recruitment and includes addressing critical workplace issues such as stress, loneliness, and wellbeing—particularly in hybrid work cultures. The lecture highlighted the evolution of talent strategies from a focus on efficiency to a focus on innovation, adaptability, and a people-first mindset. Students were actively engaged in discussions about the role of talent management in driving organizational success and sustainability.
Drawing on his professional experience at EPAM, the speaker shared real-world insights into HR’s role in workforce planning during major crises such as the Y2K problem, the 2008 recession, 9/11, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the India-Pakistan conflict. These examples illustrated how strategic talent management ensures business continuity and resilience. He also explained the distinction between strategy, planning, management, and education, underscoring how each contributes uniquely to the employee lifecycle. The discussion expanded into key dimensions of talent planning—including people, skills, roles, timing, and the anticipation of future workforce demands.

The impact of disruptive technologies such as Artificial Intelligence was a central theme. The speaker urged students to prepare for the future of work by developing new-age capabilities like prompt engineering, which are becoming essential in AI-driven workplaces. Practical considerations such as aligning talent with business goals, identifying core capabilities, and managing the “buy vs. build” skills dilemma was also explored.
Students were introduced to the challenges of talent management, including talent availability, attrition, changing workforce expectations, career progression, and external PESTLE factors. The importance of differentiating between talent planning (future-oriented) and talent management (execution-oriented) was emphasized.

The lecture concluded with an interactive assignment on Behaviourally Anchored Rating Scales (BARS), encouraging students to apply theoretical concepts to practical evaluation methods.
