Objective:

To conduct a group discussion session to give students an opportunity to enhance their discussion skills.

Outcome:

As a part of the group discussion session, the students at SIBM-H were given an opportunity to understand how to enhance their discussion skills, improve listening skills and increase confidence in speaking.

On July 26th, 2025, MBA students of Batch 2024- 2026 at Symbiosis Institute of Business Management - Hyderabad (SIBM-H) had the opportunity to engage in a Mock Group Discussion session led by Mr. Sai Kumar. With extensive experience in Human Resources and Communication Skills. Mr. Sai Kumar designed the session to give students a realistic experience of group discussion dynamics and equip them with essential skills for future recruitment processes.

The main goal of the Mock GD session was to prepare students for the complexities and subtleties of group discussions typically held during recruitment. Mr. Sai Kumar aimed to enhance student’s abilities to articulate their thoughts clearly, exhibit leadership qualities, and contribute effectively to group discussions, all critical skills that employers seek.

Students were given a range of topics, from current affairs to industry-specific issues wherein they were asked to form groups and each group was shadowed by the other group who were noting down points of discussion and the performance. After each discussion, Mr. Sai Kumar and students provided individualized feedback, pointing out strengths and areas needing improvement. This personalized feedback was designed to help students understand their communication styles, improve their articulation, and boost their overall performance in group discussion and collaboration with peers.

The session highlighted the significance of teamwork and collaborative problem-solving. Students learned to balance assertiveness with empathy, creating an environment where diverse opinions could be expressed and discussed constructively.

Mr. Sai Kumar also shared effective communication strategies, such as active listening, concise idea expression, and the ability to build on others' contributions. These strategies are crucial not only for group discussions but also for professional success. By gaining practical experience in a controlled setting, students enhanced their ability to think quickly and express their viewpoints persuasive.

The session not only prepared students for upcoming placement processes but also equipped them with transferable skills essential for workplace success. Exposure to various topics and feedback from an industry expert has empowered students to approach future group discussions with confidence, resilience, and adaptability.
