The programme aimed to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry expectations by offering practical exposure, expert-led sessions, and a structured understanding of insurance operations, analytics, and career pathways.

The Joint Certification Programme (JCP 3.0) was successfully conducted by Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Hyderabad, in collaboration with Niva Bupa Health Insurance (NBHI) as part of its industry immersion and skill development initiatives for management students.

The programme was delivered by Mr. Karthik Rajashekar, a seasoned leadership and people development professional with over 19 years of corporate experience, including 14 years in Learning & Development. He currently serves as the General Manager and Head – Talent Academy (South) at Niva Bupa Health Insurance. A strong advocate of leadership excellence and continuous learning, he leads high-impact initiatives including the Emerging Leadership Program for mid-level leaders and also serves as a National Training Manager for a Bancassurance channel at NBHI.

The initiative was aligned with the institute’s commitment to providing industry-oriented learning and enhancing the employability of its students. Day 1: Understanding Insurance Foundations and Products

The first day of the programme focused on building a strong conceptual foundation of the insurance industry and its practical relevance.

Session 1: Insurance Industry & Basics of Insurance

Mr. Karthik introduced students to the structure and evolution of the insurance sector, emphasizing health insurance as a wealth preserver and wellbeing tool. Students learned about:

  • Core principles of insurance
  • Key insurance terminologies
  • Risk pooling and risk transfer

This session explained underwriting as a key process of risk evaluation and premium determination. The claims process was described as the “moment of truth”, where service quality is most visible.

  • Grievance redressal systems, Insurance Ombudsman, and consumer courts

Session 4: Insurance Analytics, Organizational Culture & Careers in Insurance

The final session introduced students to insurance analytics and its role in:

  • Customer insights

The session also highlighted organizational culture, people practices, and future readiness in the insurance sector. The programme concluded with an overview of career opportunities in insurance, helping students understand roles across underwriting, claims, analytics, sales, and training.

The Joint Certification Programme (JCP 3.0) was highly interactive and engaging, with students actively participating across all four sessions. Mr. Karthik Rajashekar fostered an open learning environment by encouraging questions, discussions, and real-world reflections, which helped students connect theoretical knowledge with practical insurance scenarios.
