Event Name : Peer Learning Session, organized by Operations Club for Batch 2025-27.

Objective : The objective of the peer learning session was to strengthen the understanding of key Operations Management concepts among members of SIBM-H. The session aimed to provide practical insights, promote collaborative learning, and prepare students for academic excellence and real-world application of operations tools and techniques.

Outcome :

  • 1) Enhanced clarity and conceptual understanding of critical operations management topics.
  • 2) Improved peer-to-peer learning and knowledge exchange within the batch.
  • 3) Practical insights into the application of Lean, Agile, and Quality tools in industries.
  • 4) Strengthened collaboration among members of OP$-ERA and reinforced the culture of continuous learning.

The peer learning session organized by OP$-ERA, the Operations Club of SIBM-H, was conducted with the active participation of 18 members from the batch 2025-27. The session was designed to provide both conceptual clarity and practical exposure to critical aspects of Operations Management that are widely used in industries today.

The session was led by senior members Diya Jasmine, Bhabagrahi Mohalik, and Isha Malnir, who each brought their individual perspectives and expertise to the discussion. Their teaching approach combined presentations, interactive explanations, and practical industry-oriented examples, ensuring that participants could connect theoretical frameworks with real-world applications.

The session was structured around the following topics:

1) Facilities and Location Analysis- Discussion revolved around the strategic importance of plant layout and location decisions. Members were introduced to key factors such as cost optimization, proximity to suppliers and customers, and long-term scalability of facilities.

2) Lean and Agile Management – The facilitators explained how Lean principles eliminate waste and improve efficiency, while Agile practices help organizations adapt quickly to dynamic market conditions. Examples from the automobile and IT sectors were shared to highlight their use.

3) 5S Framework - The Japanese workplace organization method was demonstrated with simple, relatable examples, emphasizing the importance of Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain in creating efficient workflows.

4) Kaizen - The concept of continuous improvement was explained through real-life examples of companies like Toyota, where even small daily improvements by employees collectively contribute to larger organizational growth

5) Kanban - A visual method for workflow management was explained. The use of Kanban boards to track work-in-progress and improve team collaboration was demonstrated.

6) Product Design - The facilitators highlighted how customer needs, functionality, cost- effectiveness, and manufacturability are balanced in designing products. Case examples illustrated how poor design can increase production costs and reduce customer satisfaction.

7) Just in Time (JIT) - The philosophy of producing “only what is needed, when it is needed, and in the quantity needed” was discussed. Participants explored its impact on inventory reduction and cash flow management, with references to Toyota’s implementation.

8) Quality Control - Different quality tools and approaches were discussed, such as inspection, statistical process control, and Six Sigma. The emphasis was placed on

Throughout the session, participants were encouraged to ask questions and share their thoughts, which made the learning process collaborative and engaging. The senior members ensured that complex concepts were simplified and connected to business contexts that participants could easily relate to. To extend the learning beyond the session, detailed notes and presentation slides were shared with the batch, allowing members to revise and apply the concepts at their own pace.
