Objective: The objective of the guest lecture is to help students understand the waste management landscape through a real-world case study, highlighting how waste is generated, segregated, processed, and disposed of. The session aims to link theoretical concepts with practical implementation, create awareness about sustainable waste management practices, and develop a sense of environmental responsibility among students.
Outcome: After the guest lecture, students will be able to understand the practical functioning of waste management systems, identify key challenges and solutions in waste handling, and appreciate the importance of sustainable practices such as waste segregation, recycling, and reduction. The session will enhance their awareness of environmental responsibility and enable them to relate theoretical knowledge to real-life applications.
A guest lecture on “Waste Management Landscape: A Case Study” was organized as part of the Sustainable Finance curriculum to help students understand the financial and economic dimensions of environmental sustainability. The objective of the session was to demonstrate how effective waste management systems contribute to sustainable development by reducing environmental risks, improving resource efficiency, and creating long-term economic value.
Through a real-world case study, the resource person explained the end-to-end waste management process, including segregation, collection, recycling, treatment, and disposal, while highlighting the associated cost structures, funding mechanisms, and investment requirements. The lecture linked waste management practices with sustainable finance concepts such as green investments, ESG considerations, public–private partnerships, and circular economy financing. Attention was also given to the role of government policies, municipal financing, and private sector participation in enabling financially viable and environmentally responsible waste management solutions.
