The Human Resource Club of SIBM-H Humanalaya conducted a Guest Talk on the topic “Employee Engagement” for the management students of MBA Batch 2024-2026 on 6th September 2024. The guest for the session was Mr. Emmanuel Gosula, Senior Talent Development Manager, EPAM Systems, Hyderabad. The talk was conducted over two sessions. In the morning session (9:30 am - 11:00 am), Mr. Gosula engaged with Section 'B' students in the classroom 104, while the afternoon session (11:15 am - 12:30 pm) provided an opportunity for Section 'A' students to interact with him in the same location. Mr. Gosula immersed the students into the captivating discussion which aimed at providing a comprehensive understanding of employee engagement and its importance i.e. how it gives a competitive advantage in the workplace in today’s world.

The talk emphasized the critical importance of employee engagement, detailing its definition, the costs of disengagement, and the benefits of an engaged workforce. We were introduced to the concept of Emotional commitment, Positive work environments and Outplacement. The talk highlighted how designing a robust engagement framework can significantly boost organizational performance and employee satisfaction.

Furthermore, Mr. Gosula clarified the concept of employee engagement, distinguishing it from related terms such as employee happiness, incentive and motivation, emphasizing that employee engagement is much deeper and more meaningful. The discussion then shifted to the financial and operational costs associated with employee disengagement. Mr. Gosula outlined how disengaged employees can lead to increased turnover, reduced productivity, and higher absenteeism rates. The cost of disengagement extends beyond monetary losses, affecting team morale and overall organizational effectiveness. Real-world examples were presented, and students learnt that implementing effective engagement strategies, such as aligning personal and organizational goals, can significantly improve workplace culture and productivity.

The talk seamlessly transitioned into a discussion on how to design an effective model or framework for employee engagement. Mr. Gosula outlined essential components of a successful engagement strategy, including clear communication channels, using the right software tools, and giving more responsibility to the managers. Mr. Gosula also discussed the steps to design a framework which included defining the objective and goals, developing engagement metrics and finally implementing the program. Following this, the discussion led to a Q&A session, where students asked engaging questions on the practical application of employee engagement and how to effectively address common challenges in the workplace.
